Frequently Asked Questions

Who was Carter Reidelbach?

Carter “Sloth” Reidelbach was a cherished friend of the SLG Incorporated team. He tragically lost his life to suicide in December 2022. We host the annual SLG Open to honor his memory and celebrate the vibrant life he lived. Carter was a passionate competitor and beloved member of both the Pokémon TCG and Super Smash Bros. communities for many years, and he remains a true pillar of inspiration for us.

Why is there an entry fee this year?

After four successful SLG Open events, we’re excited to grow the tournament by moving to a larger venue and offering more amenities. To make this possible, we’ve introduced entry fees to help cover increased operating costs and provide guaranteed prizing for both tournaments.

Will there be guaranteed prizing this year?

Yes! This year marks SLG’s first time offering cash prizing for both the Pokémon TCG and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate tournaments. The entry fee for each specific tournament will be distributed as cash prizing for their respective tournaments.

Will you still hold a charity raffle?

Absolutely! Just like in previous years, we’ll host our popular charity raffle. All funds raised by our event including raffle ticket sales will go directly to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) after covering our operating costs. We’ll have another fantastic lineup of prizes for winners.

Are you still raising money for the AFSP?

Yes! Fundraising is one of SLG’s primary missions. We work year-round to fundraise for the event, and after covering all operating costs, any surplus funds are donated directly to AFSP to support suicide prevention efforts.

Can I attend as a spectator?

Yes, spectators are welcome! To join us for the day and have full venue access, please purchase a spectator pass. In addition to the main tournaments, this year features a great lineup of vendors, side events, and more. There’s plenty for everyone to enjoy, whether you’re competing or just coming to support the community.

What are the proceeds used for?

All proceeds from entry fees, spectator passes, concessions, raffle tickets, and other sources go toward tournament prize pools and covering the event’s operating costs. Any remaining funds after expenses are donated directly to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

Are there activities for spectators at the SLG Open?

Definitely! In addition to the main tournaments, this year features a great lineup of vendors, side events, and more. There’s plenty for everyone to enjoy, whether you’re competing or just coming to support the community.

How can I get involved with the event?

We would love your help! Volunteers play a huge role in making the SLG Open possible, and we truly appreciate all the help we can get. Visit the “Get Involved” tab on our website for volunteer applications and details on available roles.

Does the new venue have good parking?

Yes! The venue offers over 300 free parking spots on-site, so parking should be easy and stress-free.

Will there be food and drinks available?

Yes! We’ll have fresh concessions for purchase along with the food trucks that will be stationed outside throughout the day. Come hungry!

Is outside food and drink allowed?

Yes, you’re welcome to bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks. Alcoholic beverages are not permitted at the event.

Are donations to SLG Inc. tax-deductible?

Yes! SLG Incorporated is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
